Special judge MK Nagpal sent Nair to jail until October 20 after the CBI failed to request his further questioning
A special court here on Thursday sent businessman and AAP communications officer Vijay Nair, arrested in connection with the Delhi excise policy scam case in which Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia is also an accused, to two weeks in court. Special Judge MK Nagpal sent Nair to jail until October 20 after the CBI failed to request his further questioning.
The Central Investigation Office brought Nair to court at the end of his CBI remand. According to the prosecution, Nair has entered into a criminal conspiracy with others that shaped and implemented the excise policy of the Government of the National Capital Area Delhi (GNCTD) from 2021-2022.
The motive was to provide improper and illegal favors to liquor manufacturers and distributors at the expense of the state treasury, and the policy resulted in a huge loss of revenue for the government, the prosecutor alleged. The CBI had registered an FIR against the accused officials, including Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, and other named and unnamed individuals under the relevant sections of the IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act.
According to the FIR, the accused officials were instrumental in making excise policy decisions without the approval of the competent authority. The accused’s intent was to extend illegitimate favors to the liquor license holders for illegal monetary benefits, the FIR claimed.
