Ian Henderson wrote himself in Rochdale’s record books when the striker’s header in the 80th minute proved decisive in a 1-0 win against Salford.
The Dale frontman met a great pass from Ethan Brierley to nod past Tom King into the visitors’ goal and overtake Reg Jenkins as the club’s all-time top scorer with 130 goals.
His milestone goal lit up a low quality game.
Ryan Watson came closest to breaking the deadlock in a calm first half. A side attempt by the Salford midfielder misdirected Dale goalkeeper Richard O’Donnell, but a deflection sent the shot wide of the post.
Dale got close to an opener early in the second half when a cross from Tyrese Sinclair was turned into goal by Devante Rodney, who King denied him with a fine save.
Marcus Dackers missed a brilliant opportunity when he got the ball completely unmarked from eight yards from goal, while Ibou Touray’s delivery was turned against the crossbar by Luke Bolton.
But Rochdale broke the deadlock in the 80th minute by Henderson, who timed his run to perfection to meet Brierley’s clever pass.
