Ayoub Assal shone as AFC Wimbledon shocked the high-flying Leyton Orient with a 2-0 Sky Bet League Two win at Plow Lane.
Leaders Orient controlled the game early on, but Wimbledon took the lead in the 19th minute. Assal’s deflected shot went past goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux for his fifth goal in six games.
And Assal was involved again when the Dons doubled their lead in the 35th minute, his blocked shot falling in the path of Harry Pell – crushing his shot into the top corner.
Tom James and Ruel Sotiriou had chances for the visitors, but there were no clear opportunities for Orient in a frustrating first half.
The visitors started the second half strongly and almost pulled one back through Theo Archibald, whose shot was headed off the line by Chris Gunter.
Meanwhile, the hosts had two good chances for a third, with Ryley Towler’s header going just wide and Ethan Chislett’s free kick hitting the post.
Substitute Jordan Brown thought he had pulled one more late for Orient, but it was ruled out on what ended up being a frustrating night for his side.
