Filmmaker Pradeep Ranganathan is overjoyed at how his latest film Love Today has been received by the public. In addition to writing and directing it, he has also played the lead role. The film marks his debut as a lead actor; previously, he had made a cameo appearance in the climax of his first directorial outing, Comali.
It seems that Love Today has struck a chord with the audience in Tamil Nadu. It is Pradeep’s second consecutive success after the 2019 comedy-drama Comali, starring Jayaram Ravi. Buoyed by the response to Love Today, popular producer Dil Raju of Sri Venkateshwara creations has bought the Telugu distribution rights to the film.
Pradeep recently met the media in Chennai and thanked the audience for enjoying his film. “I would never give up directing. But I’m also going to focus on acting. I am also ready to act in films by other directors,” he said.
Love Today was the title of the 1995 Tamil superstar Vijay’s romantic drama. It was one of Vijay’s biggest hits during the early days of his career. “We shouldn’t compare the two films. This movie introduced me as a new actor but Vijay sir was already at his peak when he made that movie. It’s very wrong to compare these films,” he explained.
Pradeep also confirmed the news that he has sent a story to Vijay. However, he declined to discuss the details because he wasn’t ready to push the discussion away from Love Today. “Yes, I told him a story. But I don’t want to talk about it right now because it seems like I’m talking about it to generate publicity for my film. When the film is finished, I’ll talk about it,” he said.
Vijay is now shooting for his upcoming film Varisu. The film will hit theaters during the Pongal holiday. After that, he will join the sets of director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s next.
