Ningol Chakouba festival is celebrated with the theme of strengthening the love bond between married women (Ningol) with their paternal families

Manipur, with its abundant natural beauty, is home to multiple ethnic communities. Of all the festivals and ceremonies that have kept intact the unity and tradition of the state, one is Ningol Chakouba. It is celebrated on the second Monday in the Hiyangei month of the Manipur calendar. This festival is mainly celebrated with the theme of strengthening the love bond between married women (Ningol) with their paternal families.

Ningol Chakouba is celebrated throughout the Manipur region. Originally, people from only Meitei Pangal communities celebrated this festival. But now it is being flagged by other communities in Manipur.

It is the feast of family reunions, where sisters bless brothers. It strengthens a woman’s bond with her brother, sister and parents.

On this auspicious day, married women are invited to their parental home for a feast (Chakouba), which is held together with other relatives. And when the party ends, brothers, uncles, and fathers (and every male relative) give gifts to the married women. In return, women also bring special gifts for their families.

  1. Special wishes to all Ningols celebrating the auspicious occasion of Ningol Chakouba!
  2. May the beautiful festival strengthen the bond between every brother and sister!
  3. I wish all brothers and sisters a very happy Ningol Chakouba. This auspicious day will bring unforgettable moments/relationships with each other.
  4. Special wishes to all Ningols celebrating the auspicious occasion of Ningol Chakouba!
  5. May all the daughters and sisters of this earth live with love, also respect and peace.
