12 noon Bandh in Odisha’s Poll-bound Dist; Modi compares India’s progress under ‘Economist PM’ and ‘Chaiwallah’

says it must eschew its ‘divide and rule’ strategy to regain the trust of the people of Gujarat. He took a swipe at former Congress Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, saying the country’s economy had only risen by one position to reach 10th despite a renowned economist serving as Prime Minister for a decade , but it became the fifth largest in the past eight years under a government led by a “chaiwala”.

The prime minister also accused the opposition party of preventing the armed forces from acting against terrorism when it was in power because of vote-banking politics. Speaking at a poll in Bhavnagar town of Palitana city in support of Bharatiya Janata Party candidates, Modi said that the people of Gujarat have rejected the Congress as the state has suffered a lot from the party’s policy of harassing people of a region or intercourse against another.

Responding to the prime minister’s attack, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said on Monday that his party had sacrificed two prime ministers in the fight against terrorism.

Kharge questioned whether a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader had fought for the freedom of the country. “We have done the work to fight against terrorists. To keep the peace in the land, we sacrificed our leaders. Indira Gandhi sacrificed her life to keep the country united. Rajiv Gandhi was tortured for the unity of the country. Is there any leader in BJP who has at least fought for the freedom of the country?” Kharge asked.

Meanwhile, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, who also campaigned for the Gujarat polls on Monday, said there is a huge craze for the Aam Aadmi party among women and youth in Gujarat as it pledges to tackle inflation and unemployment, claiming that the AAP will win more than 92 out of a total of 182 seats in next month’s Gujarat Assembly polls. He had said at a press conference earlier in the day that he would indicate in writing that three AAP candidates, including party chairman for Gujarat Gopal Italia and CM face Isudan Gandhvi, would win by a huge margin.

The campaign for the first phase of the Gujarat parliamentary elections, scheduled for December 1, ends on November 29.

Gujarat Election Watch and ADR have analyzed the self-affidavits of all 833 candidates competing in Phase II in 93 constituencies. At least 19 (20 percent) of the 93 constituencies are Red Alert constituencies – where three or more candidates have brought criminal cases against themselves. More than 30 percent of Congress and AAP candidates running in the second phase of the Gujarat elections face criminal charges, the report said. 18 percent of BJP candidates have also faced criminal charges.

The ballot box for the second and final phase will take place on 5 December and the votes will be counted on 8 December.

MCD Polls 2022

In its pitch to the upcoming citizens’ polls in Delhi, the Delhi Unit of Congress has pledged to restore Chhat-ghats on the banks of the Yamuna and provide them with other facilities to hold their festival without any hurdles.

Anil Chaudhary, head of the Delhi unit of the congress, alleged that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal “betrayed” the Purvanchalis living in the national capital with false promises and prevented them from holding their most auspicious festival.

Chaudhary also said fighting for the “rights and protection” of Dalits and minorities will be the number one priority if the Congress wins the citizens’ elections. Chaudhary said the Congress would implement various social services to empower these communities, especially Dalit children, through quality education.

Meanwhile, the Delhi BJP is confident in its victory. An internal Delhi BJP survey has shown that the party could win 170 out of 250 branches in the MCD polls next month, a senior party leader said on Monday, according to PTI. The survey with a sample size of 43,750 voters was conducted between November 13 and November 25, said Delhi BJP media chief Harish Khurana.

AAP leader Raghav Chadha claimed on Sunday that his party will win more than 230 out of 250 seats in the upcoming Delhi MCD poll. “The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is going to win the MCD elections by a huge margin. People are happy that there is finally a chance to kick this corrupt BJP out of the municipal corporations,” he said at a party padayatra in Keshavpuram.

Elections for 250 wards of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will be held on December 4. The results will be announced on December 7.
