The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) released the first list of 134 candidates for the high-stakes public polls in Delhi on Friday. The names were announced after a lengthy meeting of the party’s Political Committee. More than 60 female candidates are on the list.
Ninety percent of the tickets have been awarded to AAP employees working on the base, the party said in a statement.
More than 20,000 workers had applied to secure a ticket to contest the MCD polls, it said.
Earlier in the day, the party had released its list of 30-star campaigners, while national organizer Arvind Kejriwal also released the party’s 10 guarantees for the polls, including cleaning up the three landfills, corruption-free MCD, and other points.
The 250-ward Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will go to the polls on December 4 and the vote counting will take place on December 7.
The BJP has held power in the MCD – split into companies in the north, south and east in 2012 and then united this year – for three consecutive terms. The citizen polls are largely seen as a three-way game between the BJP, the AAP and Congress.
