It is not a border clash between Assam and Meghalaya, but a clash between the police in the forest and villagers, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. News18 Wednesday in Delhi.
“The investigation has been referred to CBI and NIA. This has nothing to do with the border. I’m in contact with the Meghalaya CM. We will investigate what happened,” said the CM.
On whether this incident will hinder peace talks with Meghalaya, the CM said that peace talks would continue. “They (peace talks) will continue. If this isn’t a border dispute, why should it interfere with peace talks?”
Six people were killed in the collision, which is said to be a result of timber smuggling in the area.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has said that he had a telephone conversation with Sarma and “expressed deep concern about the unfortunate incident in Mukroh and informed him about it.”
Sangma said that the Assam CM informed him that the OC of Zirikinding PS and the Forest Range Protection Officer in charge of the area involved in the incident have been suspended and the SP of West Karbi Anglong has been transferred.
Sangma also said he was assured that the government of Assam will take necessary steps to look into the matter in consultation with the government of Meghalaya.
