Cong Chief Kharge Lambasts PM Modi; Calls him “chief of liars,” sympathy seeker

Congress president Malikarjun Kharge on Sunday called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “jhoothon ka sardar” (leader of liars), saying the latter is trying to win sympathy by calling himself poor and claiming that people are abusing him.

Speaking at a public rally in Dediapada in Gujarat’s tribal-dominated Narmada district, Kharge said he himself comes from the “poorest of the poor and untouchable caste”.

“Modiji and (Interior Minister Amit) Shah ask what Congress has done in 70 years? If we hadn’t done anything for 70 years, you wouldn’t have got democracy. And people like you who always claim to be poor. I am also poor. I come from the poorest. I come from the untouchable caste. At least people drink your tea. People don’t even drink my tea,” he said.

“And then you say: I am poor, someone mistreated me, said something to me, asked what my status is. If you try to gain sympathy by saying such things, then (understand) people are intelligent now. They’re not that stupid,” he said.

Kharge claimed that people will listen if you lie once or twice and asked the prime minister, “How many times have you lied?” he himself stands with the rich.

‘How many times have you lied? Lie after lie. He is a leader of liars. And what’s more, he says these congressmen have plundered the country. You also plunder the land of the poor, and give no land to the Adivasi. Who destroys land, water and forest? You and the rich people you work with, they are looting us,” he claimed.

The parliamentary elections in Gujarat will take place in two phases on December 1 and 5, while votes will be counted on December 8.
