Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said on Friday that her party will provide 1 lakh jobs, restore the old pension system and provide financial aid of Rs 1,500 to every woman in the state if voted to power in the upcoming Assembly polls.
At a meeting here, Vadra said Congress will also fight the drug threat that is ruining the future of youth and build English-language schools in every Assembly constituency.
She also targeted the state government, saying the state has “drowned” in debt under the BJP dispensation and that 63,000 government posts are vacant.
Citing the work of the congress in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, the only two states where the party is in power alone, Vadra said her party will keep its promises in Himachal as well.
“Congress will create 1 lakh jobs… Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel sitting here, he has created 5 lakh jobs in three years. The Congress government in Rajasthan has created 1.30 lakh jobs,” she said.
Today, Chhattisgarh has the lowest unemployment rate, she added.
Vadra said that if the Congress is voted to power, it will finalize the decision to provide 1 lakh jobs to the youth of Himachal Pradesh in the first cabinet meeting.
“We also say that we will do our best to provide 5 lakh jobs within five years. This is our guarantee,” she says.
She said the decision to restore the old pension scheme will also be finalized in the first cabinet meeting if Congress is voted to power.
The congress leader said she understands the burden carried by women who work from home and away from home.
“This is the reason why Congress wants to provide every woman with financial aid of Rs 1,500 monthly. This plan is called the ‘Har Ghar Lakshmi Yojna’,” she said.
In addition, Congress wants to build four English-language schools in each Assembly constituency and fight the threat of drugs.
Vadra lashed out at the BJP saying that the party does not want to do anything for the people and is working for its selfish interests.
She claimed that 63,000 government posts in Himachal Pradesh have been vacant in the past five years and that the state is in debt of Rs 70,000 crore.
“When we say we will create 1 lakh jobs, their (BJP) prime minister says it is not possible. But if they want to sell the country’s assets, the PSUs, to their business friends, that’s possible,” she said.
The BJP says there is no money to restore the old pension scheme, Vadra said.
“You have waived loans worth Rs 10 lakh crore from major corporations. You had money for that, but no money for a workers’ pension’, she asked.
Vadra said the Center has failed to tackle problems such as inflation and in turn has burdened people with more taxes.
“The public is asking for freedom from inflation and you say take GST and more tax. Even the GST on boxes used for packaging apples has been increased. This is the answer you will get,” she said.
She urged people to vote after evaluating who has pure intentions.
“Do you want the youth to remain unemployed for the next five years, no army recruitment, police scams and teacher recruitment?” she asked the gathering.
The Himachal Pradesh polls will be held on November 12 and the vote counting will take place on December 8.
