Congress MLA of Jhalod in Dahod district of Gujarat, Bhavesh Katara, has resigned from the legislature ahead of upcoming state assembly elections.
He is the third MLA from Congress to resign in the past two days, after Mohansinh Rathwa and Bhagwan Barad.
Katara went to the residence of parliament speaker Nimaben Acharya on Wednesday evening and tendered her resignation, an official statement said.
His resignation comes as the BJP is finalizing candidates for Gujarat’s parliamentary elections.
Katara is likely to join the BJP on Thursday.
Earlier, Rathwa and Barad also joined the Saffron Party after resigning from the Congress Party and as MLAs.
The elections in Gujarat will be held in two phases on December 1 and December 5, with the vote counting taking place on December 8.
