Gujarat Polls: AAP Announces Its CM Candidate Today

The national chairman of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Arvind Kejriwal, will today announce the name of the party’s top ministerial candidate for the upcoming parliamentary elections in Gujarat based on the opinions of the people of the state, party officials said Thursday. .

Previously, Kejriwal had urged people to contact the party via SMS, WhatsApp, voicemail and email to express their views on who should be the CM candidate of the party in the state, which is currently being launched. ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

He had said people could submit their views until the evening of November 3, and based on their opinion, the name of the party’s main ministerial face would be announced the next day.

Those in the race for the top post of the AAP include state unit president Gopal Italia, national secretary general Isudan Gadhvi and general secretary Manoj Soratihya, party sources said.

Kejriwal is scheduled to hold a press conference in Ahmedabad on Friday to announce the results, the party said in a statement. “We will announce the results on November 4,” he said last Saturday.

At the time, Kejriwal had also said: “During the elections in Punjab, we had asked people who would be the next prime minister. People called Bhagwant Mann by a large majority. And according to the wishes of the public, we have him prime minister.”

Meanwhile, the AAP released its ninth list of 10 candidates for the Gujarat polls on Thursday, bringing the number of candidates whose names have been announced so far to 118.

The Election Commission announced on Thursday that parliamentary elections in Gujarat will be held in two phases on December 1 and December 5, with votes counting on December 8, along with Himachal Pradesh’s.

“A total of 51,782 polling stations will be established in Gujarat. Of those, 1,274 will be managed by female polls and security personnel,” the election commission said.

Also, the home voting facility will be there for 80+ & PwD voter, with 40 percent disability as a benchmark. There are a total of more than 4.9 crore eligible voters in Gujarat including 4.6 lakh first-time voters.

The Election Commission said it was setting up more than 1,200 polling stations, mostly for women. To encourage young voters, 33 stations will be staffed by the youngest EC staff, while 182 stations will be staffed by persons with disabilities.

The term of the Gujarat assembly ends on February 18, 2023 and the elections have been announced 110 days in advance.

Gujarat’s election was brightened by the accession of the AAP as the BJP appears to be continuing its unbroken streak of victories there since 1995, as the main opposition congress works to bolster its campaign.

In elections held in Gujarat in 2017, the BJP had won 99 seats, while the Congress won 77, taking 49.05 percent and 42.97 percent of the vote, respectively.

The state will witness a triangle match – between the ruling BJP, the opposition congress and the AAP.
