Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Maharashtra, Nitesh Rane, has alleged that the ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi is “staged” and actors are paid to walk with him, a claim rejected by Congress as a “malicious propaganda” to discredit the yatra.
Rane, son of union minister Narayan Rane, tweeted Monday a screenshot of an alleged cell phone call without naming names with the comment: “Ye Pappu kabhi pass nahi hoga!!” “So the Rahul Gandhi Yatra is being staged. This is proof of how actors are paid to come for a walk with him. Sab Golmaal hai bhai!” he tweeted.
Amit Malviya, the head of the BJP’s national information and technology department, claimed a “paid PR”.
“Apart from refurbishing Rahul Gandhi’s credentials as a leader, his yatra has only allowed the emergence of a selfish coterie around him, which does more damage through this kind of paid PR. But who are these people willing to deal with Rahul even for some money? he wondered in a tweet.
Sachin Sawant, general secretary of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, questioned the authenticity of Nitesh Rane’s tweets and claims, claiming on Tuesday that the tweet shows the BJP’s desperation to discredit the yatra.
“Such fake WhatsApp images are shown as evidence. No name, no numbers. It is BJP who has mastered the art of artificially supporting celebrities to artificially support them, not Congress.
“Don’t we remember celebrity tweets about petrol and diesel rates during the UPA government and during farmer protests? Everyone knows that it takes courage to oppose the autocratic and divisive agenda of the BJP. Those who joined Bharat Jodo Yatra stand for the cause and for our nation,” he tweeted.
Sawant said the BJP’s attempt to belittle artists’ honesty and defame their characters shows how correct artists’ point of view is.
“Today’s Prime Minister’s statement against Bharat Jodo Yatra and such malicious propaganda by the BJP only confirms our determination and proves that the yatra is on the right track,” he added.
