Speaking to reporters, Fadnavis said the Interior Ministry led by him has taken note of all threats against the Prime Minister.

Police have arrested a man in connection with the threat to the life of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis said Monday. Speaking to reporters, Fadnavis said the Interior Ministry led by him has taken note of all threats against the Prime Minister. “We pay full attention to the security of the Prime Minister and other aspects. The person who threatened the CM yesterday has been arrested,” he said, adding that the safety of the CM is very important.

While Fadnavis did not share details about the person arrested, Pune Police had registered an unidentifiable (NC) violation against a man who had called the police control room and claimed to have a “plot” to kill CM Shinde in a hotel in Lonavala in Poona district. The man, Avinash Waghmare, was drunk and called on Saturday to “teach the hotel’s owner a lesson” for overcharging him for a bottle of water, a senior police official said Sunday.

The State Intelligence Department (SID) received specific input on Saturday about the threat to the prime minister’s life, after which his security was increased. Additional security has been provided to the CM, which enjoys Z Plus security coverage, a senior SID official had said.

Security of Shinde’s private residence in Thane and ‘Varsha’ official residence in Mumbai was stepped up. Shinde had received a threatening letter believed to have been sent by Naxalites last October when he was the Minister of Urban Development and also the Guardian Minister of the Naxalism-stricken district of Gadchiroli.

Shinde became prime minister on June 30 this year after his rebellion with Shiv Sena MLAs led to the collapse of the Uddhav Thackeray-led government.
