Election 2022 LIVE Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal will speak at campaign rallies on Sunday in Surat, the ‘diamond city’ of Gujarat, in their final campaign ahead of the first phase of the elections. The vote will take place in Surat in the first phase of the Gujarat Assembly elections on December 1.
On Saturday, BJP President JP Nadda released the party’s polling manifesto in Gandhinagar where he pledged that the party would create 20 Lakh jobs and revamp government schools. The BJP is also promising to make Gujarat a trillion-dollar economy.
Out of a total of 788 candidates contesting in the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections, 167 candidates have criminal cases pending against them, and 100 of them face serious charges such as murder and rape, according to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms ( ADR) Thursday.
Overall, 21 percent of contestants have criminal cases against them, while 13 percent face serious charges.
In terms of political parties, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which contests 88 seats, tops this list with 36 percent of its candidates having a criminal background, and 33 percent facing serious charges. The number of candidates with a criminal background stands at 32. This is followed by Congress, with 35 percent, and the BJP whose criminal candidates are 16 percent.
Delhi MCD Polls
The allocation of electronic voting machines to the polling stations has been done after randomization of these machines at the second level ahead of the December 4 municipal elections in Delhi. The second level randomization of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) was conducted by the respective District Election Officers in the presence of General Observers appointed by the State Election Commission (SEC), Delhi.
Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, has confidently claimed that his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will record a “historic victory” in the upcoming Gujarat Assembly polls and become a “national” political party. The BJP and AAP have exchanged arms over several key issues in the national capital in the battle for MCD polls to be held on December 4 and votes will be counted on December 7.
Himachal Pradesh Elections 2022
The BJP will come to power in Himachal Pradesh with a full majority, the party’s spokesman Randhir Sharma has claimed, calling Congress’s allegations of possible horse-trading “baseless”.
He claimed that the congressional leaders are aware that they are in for a major defeat and are therefore trying to divert people’s attention by talking about EVMs and horse-trading.
“The BJP will form a government with a full majority and will not need MLAs from another party,” he added.
The polls to elect 68 members of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly took place on November 12. The counting of the votes is on December 8.
