Shashi Tharoor ahead of the election of party chairman

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said on Monday that everyone in the party wants to take on the BJP instead of each other. Thiruvananthapuram MP, who is about to face an electoral showdown with congressional veteran Mallikarjun Kharge for the post of party chairman, said the two have no ideological difference.

“Let me make it clear that I agree with @kharge ji that all of us in @incIndia want to take on the BJP instead of each other. There is no ideological difference between us. Choosing our voting colleagues on October 17 is just how we can do it most effectively,” Tharoor said in a tweet. His comments came a day after Kharge said he told Tharoor it would be better to be a consensus candidate. but the Lok Sabha MP insisted on a competition in the interests of democracy.

The Congressional presidential election will take place on October 17. The votes will be counted on October 19 and the results will be announced the same day. More than 9,000 delegates from the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) will vote in the poll.
