Parminder Singh Bhanda, DCP (law and order), told CNN-News18 that security had been given to Suri, but the leader sat on the dharna without informing the police.
In broad daylight, Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri was shot dead by unknown assailants during a protest in Amritsar in Punjab on Friday. After the incident, police arrived and took the victim to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Amritsar Police Commissioner Arun Pal Singh addressed the media about the incident and said multiple shots were fired at Suri. “Today we received information around 3.30-4pm. He was shot and succumbed to injuries. The suspect was arrested and the weapon recovered. The rest will be notified as the investigation progresses. I would appeal to the maintenance of law and order,” Singh said.

Congressman Manish Tewari called the assassination an “extremely unfortunate incident”.
