The Hemant Soren-led government in Jharkhand has nothing to do with tribal welfare, and it operated with the sole intention of “making money,” former BJP Prime Minister Babulal Marandi claimed Saturday.
Marandi, who led a demonstration in the Tisri bloc in Giridih district, said public order in the state was deteriorating as development work stalled.
“The Hemant Soren-led UPA government has nothing to do with the poor and the tribes, as they have the sole purpose of making money,” Marandi claimed.
The statement comes a day after Soren’s government passed a bill in state assembly that proposes to use land records from 1932 to determine residence status, in an effort to bolster its support among the tribes.
A bill to increase the total reservation offered in government jobs for STs, SCs, EBCs, OBCs and economically weaker sections (EWS) from 60 percent to 77 percent was also passed in the meeting.
Marandi claimed that the number of murders, rapes and looting has increased many times under Soren’s government.
The people of Jharkhand suffered from a shortage of sand, but the government has not been able to auction a single sand ghat in the past three years, he said.
“I have told the government that if it is not able to auction then it should make sand ghats free for the people of the state. But he (Soren) will not do it, because he has called in the police to make money from the tractors and trucks that transport sand,” the senior BJP leader claimed.
Marandi’s rally was part of a week-long protest program by the BJP against the JMM-led coalition government, which began on November 7 and will last until November 13.
Such meetings were also held in Ranchi, Hazaribag, Gumla, Saraikela-Kharswan and other districts during the day.
BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Aditya Sahu and MLA Bhanu Pratap Sahi took part in a rally in the Ormanjhi block in Ranchi.
BJP MLA Manish Jaiswal led a rally in Hazaribag’s Katkamsandi bloc.
