Supporters of Shashi Tharoor in Congressional Polls Will Join BJP, Assam CM Says; MP responds

Assam’s chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, joked at his former party congress on Saturday, claiming that if Shashi Tharoor had won the election for the post of party chairman, he would have believed that democracy has arrived in the congress. He also expressed hope that the congressmen who voted for Tharoor will eventually join the BJP.

“The results of the so-called internal congressional elections had already been announced and announced before the votes were counted. The only democratic people in the congress were the 1,000 deputies who showed the courage to vote for Shashi Tharoor. to join the BJP soon,” Sarma told ANI news agency.

The comment prompted a response from Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor, who said only those who do not have the courage to fight the BJP will be tempted to join the party.

“Those who show courage will never join the BJP, it is those who do not have the courage to fight who may be tempted to do so,” news agency ANI quoted Tharoor as saying.

Sarma rejected the perception that the BJP is not democratic or does not conduct polls within the party and emphasized that the BJP president is appointed through a democratic process and is not monitored remotely. He said that by 2024 the BJP will expand to two to three states and the expansion will continue, “by 2029 you will see the BJP all over the country,” the Assam CM added during a speech at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit (HTLS ).

In the Congressional presidential election, held in October, Mallikarjun Kharge took 7,897 of the valid votes (84.14 percent), while his rival Shashi Tharoor had 1,072 (11.4 percent). Kharge took over as the first non-Gandhi Congress Party chief in two and a half decades, but political experts argue that since he was supported by the Gandhi family during the election, the real decisions still belong to the family. Gandhi will come.
