Traitor Cannot Be CM Says Gehlot As Sachin Camp Demands Rajasthan ‘Pilot’ Seat For Tonk MLA

While Sachin Pilot’s camp pushes Congress to make him prime minister, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot rejected the demand on Thursday, saying a “gaddar (traitor) cannot be prime minister”. In an interview with NDTV on Thursday, he called Pilot a traitor six times. Gehlot’s statement came amid a furious crisis in the Rajasthan Congress, where he holds the CM post.

“A gaddar (traitor) cannot be Chief Minister,” Gehlot said Thursday. He reiterated his position on the issue, saying that the Congress high command cannot appoint Sachin Pilot as Chief Minister, “a man who has no 10 MLAs, who rebelled against his own party”.

Speaking about Sachin Pilot’s 2020 uprising, Gehlot said it was “funded by the BJP”. “In a first for India, a party’s own president tried to bring it down.” he said, adding that it was made possible by senior BJP leaders including Amit Shah.

Gurjar leader threatens to oppose bharat jodo yatra

Meanwhile, a Gurjar leader, Vijay Singh Bainsla, threatened to oppose Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ in Rajasthan unless Sachin Pilot becomes the CM. Despite this, Pilot refused to side with the Gurjar leader’s allegation, saying that the BJP was trying to cause disturbances. “No matter how hard the BJP tries, the yatra will be successful,” Pilot had said when asked about Bainsla’s threat.

Earlier, Gehlot had said his government will try to allay Bainsla’s grievances. “This is democracy and everyone has the right to speak. We govern on the basis of the Constitution and the right to speak cannot be taken away from us. If there is a question or suggestion, we will listen to it and try to address the grievances,” he said.

In his remarks, Bainsala said that the Gurjar community had voted Congress into power in Rajasthan believing that a person from their community will become CM. To this, Pilot said Congress was reduced to 21 seats in the 2013 legislative election, but the people gave it a mandate in the 2018 election.

Speaking about the Bharat Jodo Yatra, the former deputy chief minister said he is confident that the yatra will be “historic” and people are excited.

Attempts in 2020 to fire Gehlot from cm post

In 2020, attempts were made to sack Gehlot from the Rajasthan CM post ahead of that year’s Rajya Sabha elections. Several Congressional MLAs had resigned, and former deputy CM Sachin Pilot would largely replace Gehlot.

Citing the same, Gehlot supporters had recently threatened to resign in September this year if Pilot became the Chief Minister. They demanded that “anyone responsible for the failed 2020 coup d’état” not be handed the reins of the state government.
