India’s middle veteran Cheteshwar Pujara turned 35 on Wednesday. Wishes began pouring in from fans and well-wishers for the star batter. The cricket association also granted its wishes, but that of batting legend Sachin Tendulkar was in the spotlight. “Not all five fingers are the same. Not every Test batsman has to be a great batsman. An aggressive batting line-up must also be able to defend well. Pujara, you have been a rock in India’s batting line-up. Stay unique, stay yourself! Happy birthday,” Tendulkar said on Twitter while uploading a photo of him with Pujara.

Pujara has made a name for himself with his solid technique and his defensive hitting style which has saved India from trouble on many occasions. His batting style earned him comparisons to former India batsman and current national team coach Rahul Dravid, also known as ‘The Wall’.
In 98 tests to date, Pujara has scored 7,014 points with an average of 44.39. Nineteen centuries and 34 half centuries have come off his bat in the format with a best of 206 not out.
He was a vital part of Team India that completed the historic Border-Gavaskar Trophy series victory against Australia in their home territory in the 2018-19 and 2020-21 season. In fact, Pujara scored 521 runs at an average of 74.42, three centuries and fifty in the 2018/19 series which India won 2-1.
Pujara also represented India in five ODIs in which he could only manage 51 runs at an average of 10.20, with a best of 27.
He will play in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia from February 9. India will aim for this middle class batsman to show his top form and help his team defend the trophy.
