Achinta Sheuli is a young and up and coming weightlifting player from India who is making the transition from the junior level to the senior level. He won a silver medal at the 2021 World Junior Championships with a total lift of 313kg – 141kg in snatch and 172kg in clean & jerk. Achinta closed the year with a gold medal at the Commonwealth Championships in Tashkent, with a total of 316 kg – 143 kg snatch and 173 kg clean & jerk. It was his second Commonwealth Championship gold, having also won it in 2019 in Apia, Samoa.
For his achievements in 2021, Achinta has been nominated in the “Weightlifting Male Player of the Year” category of The Times of India Sports Awards (TOISA 2021). The prize winners, man and woman, in the last edition of TOISA were Saikhom Mirabai Chanu and Sathish Sivalingam.
Young Achinta’s other notable achievements in 2021 were — a 7th place finish at the World Senior Championships (316 kg) and Asian Championships (309 kg).
