Amid the news of laid-off employees on Twitter on Friday, the social media platform ‘Rest Days’ has been removed from the employees’ calendars. The rest days are known to refer to the monthly days off to allow employees to rest and recharge. A report from the New York Times reported the same. “On Thursday, employees received other signals that their workplace was changing. It also said some employees also noticed that the employee directory had been taken offline, according to internal chats seen by The Times. It may be known that Twitter has undergone several changes after the takeover by Elon Musk. Some of the major changes include the introduction of an $8 surcharge for the blue tick and a new work ethic that puts pressure on long hours.

In particular, Twitter will be firing staffers to put the social media platform on a profitable path. Twitter will email employees Friday whether they have been laid off, temporarily close offices and bar staff access, a Reuters report said. It has been reported that as many as 50% of staff can be shown the door.

In an email sent to staff, Twitter said it will alert employees to staff cuts at 9 a.m. Pacific Time (12 p.m. EDT/1600 GMT) Friday. “In an effort to put Twitter on a healthy path, Friday we will go through the difficult process of reducing our global workforce,” the email sent Thursday said.

Twitter went on to say that its offices will be temporarily closed and all access to badges will be suspended to “help ensure the security of every employee, Twitter systems and customer data.” Twitter employees not affected by the layoffs will also be notified via their corporate email addresses.
