Oppn Attacks BJP After MLAs Caught ‘Playing Teen Patti, Mixing Tobacco’ Video During UP Assembly Session

The opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly attacked the BJP by sharing alleged videos of its MLAs playing games on their phones, and one of them even mixed tobacco while the House was in session. The Jayant Chaudhary-led RLD posted a short clip to its official Twitter handle on Saturday, in which he claimed that Mahoba’s BJP MLA was playing a card game, called “Teen Patti” in the local language, on his cell phone during the proceedings.

An alleged video of another BJP MLA mixing tobacco on his palm was also shared by Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi party. Both videos were later shared by the party chief on his official Twitter handle. For the video showing a person playing card games, Yadav said he asked when Prime Minister Yogi Adityanath will use the “moral bulldozer” on him. For the tobacco video, the former CM mockingly remarked, “Eating gutkha is harmful to health!”

For both clips, he thanked the BJP MLAs who included these videos in “public interest” and “made it viral”.

The RLD, sharing the video of the card game in Hindi, tweeted: “This gentleman, who plays the game ‘Teen Patti’ in the meeting, is a BJP MLA from Mahoba… His act exemplifies his dedication towards the House and its mentality towards the honorable Members of the Assembly, highlighting the problems of the people! This is the real face and character of the public representatives of the BJP when it comes to public service!”

The Samajwadi Party, meanwhile, shared the tobacco video and tweeted in Hindi: “The BJP MLA mixes ‘Rajnigandha’ and Tulsi’ (gutka brands) in the House and promotes cancer. The BJP party is nothing less than a cancer for society. Yogi! After a few days, will your MLAs and ministers also be abusing alcohol and smoking cannabis in Parliament? Do you organize workshops and provide training for that?”

The RLD and the SP are allies and are the main opposition in the UP meeting. The SP boycotted Friday’s meeting and staged a protest over claims that the government had not discussed the raging issues of inflation and unemployment in the House of Representatives.

Led by Yadav, party lawmakers staged a strike shortly after proceedings in the House began on the last day of the five-day monsoon session and marched to party headquarters. The RLD’s MLAs also left the meeting and followed their ally.
