Opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, wrote to the speaker on Wednesday, intending to table a vote of censure in the House against Prime Minister Bhagwant Mann. In the letter to Chairman Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Bajwa requested relaxation of the seven-day notice period required to bring such a motion into the Assembly under Rule 71 of the Rules of Procedure.

He accused Mann of having “secretly” tabled a vote of no confidence in the House, “without citing any rule”.

The Congress leader further claimed that it was completely inconsistent with the company’s statement proposed to be listed before the House, as conveyed by the government through the Assembly Secretary, who said the government was proposing to legislate. or take on government affairs, including burning issues of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), stubble burning, and the power scenario.

Mann moved the no-confidence vote in the Assembly on Tuesday after Congressional MLAs were drafted for disrupting proceedings as lawmakers from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) left the House.

The Assembly meeting was called after Governor Banwarilal Purohit nodded on Sunday to convene the House on September 27, following days of feuding between the Raj Bhavan and the government of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Previously, the governor had withdrawn permission to hold a special meeting of the Assembly on September 22, when the government only wanted to table a vote of no confidence. Meanwhile, the head of the Punjab Congress, Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, condemned the speaker’s “partisan” role in driving the party’s MLAs out of the House.

He said it amounted not only to “choking” the voice of the opposition, but also to a “murder of democracy”.

Warring said the AAP government had accused the governor of “killing democracy” when he asked heartfelt questions and here the speaker threw the entire opposition out of the Assembly to allow the government a “voice of confidence by the back door”. .

The congressional leader said the government had said the issues of power situation, stubble burning and GST would be discussed during the session, but was never discussed and instead tabled a vote of no confidence when no one asked.

He said the AAP government’s “honeymoon period” is over and it has to answer many questions about the “false promises” it has made to the people of Punjab.

Warring said the government had promised to place statues of Bhagat Singh and BR Ambedkar in the congress complex, which is not allowed as it is a heritage building.

“This is a classic example of how the AAP makes reckless promises without realizing whether such promises can be kept or not,” he added.

Referring to the renaming of the airport here, Warring said, while Chandigarh is the capital of Punjab and belongs exclusively to it, “the Mohali airport should have been named as Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, Mohali after the city (Mohali) where it is located.” is located”.

The airport was renamed Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, Chandigarh on Wednesday, days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi made an announcement.
