Tharoor, I am the same; Whoever wins will be a victory for Nehruvian ideology, says Digvijaya Singh

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh, who ran for the post of Congress President on Thursday, will submit his nomination form tomorrow. Singh, who is in Delhi to collect the nomination papers, said the match between him and colleague Shashi Tharoor is “friendly” as both believe in the “Gandhian Nehruvian ideology”.

“Me and he (Shashi Tharoor) are the same. We are both people of the Gandhian Nehruvian ideology. Who ever wins, it will be the victory of ideology,” said the senior congressional leader.

Digvijaya Singh, who is known as a loyalist of the Gandhi family, claimed that command of the Congress party will always remain in the hands of the Nehru-Gandhi family, and whoever is elected president will be their representative.

“It’s a free and fair election… 99.99% of congressmen are committed to the family,” he said.

When asked about Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot stepping out of the race for the top post in India’s great old party, Singh said: “Gehlot couldn’t be blamed…he had no confidence… if I was specifically told to resign, I will withdraw.”

“I am a loyalist soldier of the party….Until and unless I get no direction from the leadership, I will not withdraw,” he added.

Gehlot left the battlefield after meeting with the party’s interim president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday. After the meeting, the Rajasthan CM told reporters that he apologized to her for the developments on Sunday when MLAs backing him defied central observers and thwarted their attempt to hold a meeting of party lawmakers over an alleged attempt to depress Sachin Pilot. Rajasthan Prime Minister.

With Gehlot virtually gone, Digvijaya Singh’s bid has given a new twist to Congress’ latest attempt to resolve the leadership crisis.

Singh, who met the party’s Thiruvananthapuram MP after collecting nomination papers for the polls, invited the competition, saying: “Whoever wants to come must also come in the field.”

After meeting Digvijaya Singh earlier today, Shashi Tharoor said they agreed that their is “not a fight between rivals, but a friendly match” between colleagues.

Nominations for the post of Congress president close on Friday. Digvijaya Singh is expected to submit his papers on the last day of the nomination process around 11 a.m. and 12 noon. Meanwhile, Tharoor has already stated that he will submit his nomination for the post of President of Congress on Friday. Voting for the post will take place on October 17, while the result will be announced on October 19.

Meanwhile, apart from Tharoor and Digvijaya Singh, several other leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge, AK Antony, Kamal Nath, Ambika Soni and Pawan Kumar Bansal have been thrown around as possible contenders. However, most of them closed themselves out of the race.

But the two main contenders who officially remain in the race appear to be Shashi Tharoor and Digvijaya Singh for now.
