Code Name Tiranga box office collection Day 1: Even low ticket prices cannot attract an audience to Parineeti Chopra’s film

The spy thriller Codename Tiranga, starring Parineeti Chopra and Harrdy Sandhu, barely made an impression in theaters on its opening day. The film released alongside Ayushmann Khurrana’s Doctor G and the Hindi dub version of Rishab Shetty’s Kannada hit Kantara.

According to early estimates, director Ribhu Dasgupta’s film earned Rs 10-15 lakhs on Friday. Box Office India reported that the film failed to attract an audience despite the low ticket prices of Rs 100. The reduced ticket prices coupled with the low grossing rate means that hardly anyone gave the film a shot in theaters.

This is Parineeti’s first release this year. She was also a bit disappointed last year. Her film Saina earned Rs 15 lakh on its opening day. Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar was also declared a flop upon its release in theaters. However, the film found its audience after it was released on streaming. She also starred in the direct-to-Netflix release The Girl on the Train, which received poor reviews. The only times Parineeti’s films had double-digit opening at the box office were when big names were involved (Kesari: Rs 21.06 cr and Golmaal Again: Rs 30.14 cr).

However, the actor had recently said that she doesn’t measure a film’s success by box office collections or OTT viewership. She told PTI that it matters whether the film touches the hearts of the audience.

Codename Tiranga opened to bad reviews from movie critics. Shubhra Gupta of the Indian Express said in her review: ‘Can you gobble up Parineeti Chopra as a deadly Indian cop capable of single-handedly dealing with a dozen and more gun-laden terrorists and their mastermind? Then this film is for you.”
