Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday mentioned his government’s measures to boost development in the capital and took a veiled swipe at the AAP dispensation here, wondering how much money should have been spent advertising these measures by the Center.
At the inauguration of 3,024 new flats for those from the economically weaker sections, Modi said poverty has long been considered a problem for the poor to deal with, but they are now central to his government’s policies. as he is a “garibon ki sarkar” (poor people’s government). ).
He cited the boost for the metro service, the length of which has increased to nearly 400km from 190km in the national capital since his government came to power. He also cited work on highways around the capital and other infrastructural measures in addition to decisions in favor of the poor.
The central government is working to make Delhi a grand city equipped with all the facilities expected of the country’s capital, Modi said.
Addressing the beneficiaries of the new flats, Modi asked, “Tell me how much money should have been spent on advertising for all the things I’ve listed for you. How many newspaper pages (with advertisements) should have been filled with my photos?” Although the prime minister did not refer to the Aam Aadmi party, which runs the city government, the BJP has often criticized it for its supposedly huge expenditure on publicity, while doing little on the ground.
The center has also helped the lower and middle classes realize their dream of a home by subsidizing their mortgage rates. More than Rs 700 crore has been spent on it, he added.
