T20 World Cup: We prepared Arshdeep Singh for death overs, says Rohit Sharma | Cricket News

ADELAIDE: India captain Rohit Sharma said on Wednesday the team prepared young Arshdeep Singh for death overs, something that worked for them in the absence of injured Jasprit Bumrah.
According to the skipper, the choice was between Arshdeep and his senior pace colleague Mohammed Shami.

The 23-year-old left-armed mermaid delivered India in the five-point victory over Bangladesh in the World Cup T20 here and continues its impressive run.
Arshdeep needed 20 of the last remaining and showed an icy temper, despite Nurul Hasan hitting him for a six and a four and throwing some perfect deliveries the length of the yorker to seal the draw for India.

“Arshdeep, when he got to the scene, we asked him to do the death overs for us. With Bumrah not there, it was a tough job for someone to record. For a young guy to come and do that kind of work It’s not easy, we prepared it,” Rohit said during the post-match presentation.

“He’s been doing it for 8-9 months. I had to support someone who did it regularly, it was a choice between Shami and Arshdeep.”
After posting 184 for 6, courtesy of Virat Kohli (64 not out of 44) and KL Rahul (50 out of 32), Litton Das (60 out of 27 balls) got Bangladesh to a kite before rain interrupted play.
Bangladesh needed 151 in 16 overs to the revised target after the brief spell of showers, eventually finishing 145 to 6.

“I was calm and nervous at the same time, but it was important to stay calm as a group to perform. Shortened matches can go either way, but we held onto our nerves well after the match started, it was a good win in the end”, said Rohit.
Speaking of Kohli having had a great tournament not long after going through a prolonged lean spell, Rohit was full of praise.
“In my mind, Kohli was always there. It was just a matter of a few turns here and there, and he hasn’t looked back since the Asian Cup. The man has so much experience.”

About Rahul, who returned to form with a 32-ball 50, Rohit said: “The way KL also batted was important to him and the team. We know what kind of player he is at the top of the order.
“Some of the catches we took today were great to see. When you play in front of a big crowd it’s not easy. Taking those catches shows the character of the guys. I have no doubts about our fielding skills.”
Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan regretted that his team lost after coming so close again in an ICC tournament against India.
“It’s the story when we play against India. We’re almost there, but we can’t cross the finish line. It was a great game, the crowd enjoyed it, both teams enjoyed it, in the end someone has to win and someone has to lose.” ‘ said Shakib.
“Litton is hitting really well, he’s probably our best batsman out there. We thought we could chase this after that start. Our plan was to get India’s top order soon, that’s why I threw out Taskin (Ahmed), he is our main bowler.
“Unfortunately he couldn’t get wickets today, he was unlucky, but it was a plan to get India’s highest order to dictate the game. We are positive, we wanted to enjoy this World Cup, hopefully we can continue this”, he said. added.
