ADELAIDE: Virat Kohli’s return between runs at the on-going T20 World Cup in Australia earned him another world record when he became the top scorer in T20 World Cup history in India’s Group 2 match against Bangladesh in Adelaide on Wednesday.
When Virat hit his 16th run en route to his unbeaten half-century, he went past former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene’s 1,016 runs in T20 World Cups. This was also Kohli’s third half-century of this four-game edition of the tournament.
Jayawardene had scored his 1,016 runs in 31 innings, while Kohli crossed that line in his 23rd innings in T20 World Cups.
Kohli eventually scored 64, not from 44 balls, to lead India to an impressive 184/6 against Bangladesh, who had won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Kohli is now the leading run scorer in T20 World Cups, T20Is (3932) and IPL (6411).
