The government of Odisha plans to host city festivals in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, the host cities for the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup in 2023.

That was decided on Friday during a meeting of the organizing committee of the FIH World Cup.
Chaired by Chief Secretary SC Mahapatra and Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey, the meeting brought together heads of all departments to discuss the progress of various activities related to the smooth and successful running of the event.
In addition to city festivals, district-level festivals are also planned in major cities across the state to celebrate the mega sporting event.
It was revealed during the meeting that the commercial flight to Rourkela is expected to start next month. Provisions are being made for charter flights between the two locations for participating teams, an official said.
Special buses would also run during the World Cup to facilitate transportation for the players, officials and spectators, he said.
During the meeting, Mahapatra instructed the various departments to complete the projects well ahead of the scheduled time in accordance with the marquee. The push was placed on connectivity and hospitality, presenting Odisha as the land of heritage and culture, next to a center of hockey.
During the meeting it was decided to organize sports carnivals and events at neighborhood level in collaboration with schools. Mahapatra also emphasized applying green practices at the two sites.
The FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup will be held in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela from January 13 to 29, 2023.
