A court here has sent the prime suspect in the murder case of Shiv Sena (Taksali) leader Sudhir Suri to police for seven days on Saturday.
The suspect, Sandeep Singh, 31, was taken to court under close security.
Suri was shot dead in broad daylight on Friday during a protest.
He protested against the management of Gopal Mandir on Majitha Road – one of the busiest spots in the city – after some broken idols of Hindu gods were reportedly found along the road, which he called an act of sacrilege.
Singh was arrested and the weapon with a .32 bore used in the commission of the crime was seized. Police say he owns a clothing store near the protest site.
The police have also tightened security in many places in the city.
