TMC leader Anubrata Mondal and his daughter’s frequent lottery win under CBI scanner

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is investigating the multi-crore cattle smuggling scam in West Bengal, has encountered more cases of Trinamool Congress strongman Anubrata Mondal and his daughter Sukanya Mondal winning lotteries.

While checking Sukanya Mondal’s bank accounts, the CBI officials traced a credit of Rs 50 lakh in one of Sukanya Mondal’s bank accounts as a lottery prize. This is the fifth lottery whose prizes went to the honor of Sukanya Mondal or her father.

According to data tracked down by the CBI investigators, this lottery with a prize of Rs 50 lakh was credited to Sukanya Mondal in January 2020.

In January, her father, Anubrata Mondal, won a raffle prize of Rs 1 crore.

Apart from these two, the CBI has previously traced three similar lottery proceeds going into bank accounts of Mondal and his daughter.

Two lottery prizes worth a total of Rs 51 lakh were transferred to the bank account of Sukanya Mondal in the last quarters of 2018 in two phases, – Rs 25 lakh and Rs 26 lakh.

A few months later, in 2019, another lottery prize of Rs 10 lakh was transferred to Anubrata Mondal’s account.

The CBI officials believe it cannot be just a coincidence that so many lottery prizes were credited to the father and daughter’s accounts within a period of just over three years.

Meanwhile, a political brawl has started over the development. Dilip Ghosh, the national vice president of the BJP and a member of the Lok Sabha party, ridiculed the matter, claiming that members of the Mondal family probably bought the lottery tickets in consultation with an astrologer who always made the correct prediction.

CPI(M) Central Committee member Sujan Chakraborty said it cannot be a coincidence that not only Anubrata Mondal or his daughter, but also many other Trinamool Congress leaders or their relatives regularly win lottery prizes. “Actually, these are ways of diverting unregistered money,” he said.

The Secretary of State of Trinamool Congress and the party spokesman, Kunal Ghosh downplayed the development, saying that some people have a habit of buying lottery tickets regularly, which is a legal business in India and is run under rules set by the Union government.
