Congress Speaker Mallikarjun Kharge and former party leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are among the 40 star campaigners announced by the party for the parliamentary elections in Gujarat.

Ashok Gehlot and Bhupesh Baghel, the chief ministers of Congress-administered Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, are also among the star campaigners for the Dec. 1-5 polls in Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state.
Congress is trying to oust the BJP from power in the state and had put up a good fight in the 2017 parliamentary elections. The BJP has been in power in the state for more than 27 years.
Among the other star campaigners named by the party are AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, CLP leader in Kerala Ramesh Chennithala, former prime ministers Digvijaya Singh, Kamal Nath, Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Ashok Chavan.
Besides, AICC general secretary Tariq Anwar, CLP leader in Karnataka meeting BK Hariprasad, senior party leaders Mohan Prakash, Shaktisinh Gohil and AICC in charge of party affairs in Gujarat Raghu Sharma are also named by the congress as its main campaigners.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot of Rajasthan and local Gukarat Congress leaders Jagdish Thakor, Sukhram Rathva, Bharatsinh Solanki, Arjun Mothvadia and Jignesh Mevani will also campaign for the party as star campaigners.
The party’s Rajya Sabha MP Imran Pratapgarhi and former student leader Kanhaiya Kumar are also among the star campaigners alongside Pawan Khera and Amrinder Singh Raja Warring.
Campaign spending by a star campaigner is not added to the candidate’s election spending, giving him or her more leeway to campaign. Under the electoral laws, these costs are borne by their parties.
