As India handed over the G20 presidency, the congress claimed on Wednesday that the group’s top will be milked in 2023 by “the world’s biggest events manager” for the Lok Sabha elections, an apparent joke against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

India handed over the presidency of the influential bloc at the end of the two-day G-20 summit in Bali hosted by Indonesia.

India will officially assume the presidency of the G20 from December 1. The next summit of G20 leaders at the level of heads of state and government is scheduled for September 9-10 in New Delhi.

Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary in charge of communications, said on Twitter: “G20, a grouping of 19 major economies and the European Union, was founded in 1999. Since 2008, annual summits have been held in turn in each member country.” Every country will be given a chance and India will host the summit in 2023, he said.

“It should certainly be applauded like similar summits held before… The non-aligned summit of more than 100 countries took place in New Delhi in 1983, followed by the Commonwealth summit,” said Ramesh.

“The 2023 summit will of course be milked by the world’s biggest events manager for the Lok Sabha elections a year later to divert attention from the people’s real problems,” he claimed.

In his remarks at the closing ceremony of the Bali summit, Prime Minister Modi said on Wednesday that India’s G-20 presidency will be inclusive, ambitious, decisive and action-oriented. world is grappling with geopolitical tensions, economic slowdown and rising food and energy prices.
