The ruling Rajasthan Congress has listed Anil Sharma as a candidate for the bypoll for the Sardarshahar assembly seat in the state. The Congress Central Election Commission announced Sharma’s name on Wednesday.
Sharma is the son of former MLA Bhanwar Lal Sharma in this seat. This seat has been vacant since the death of Bhanwar Lal Sharma.
The BJP has placed Ashok Pincha, who submitted his nomination on Wednesday, for the seat.
The deadline for submitting nominations for the midterm elections is November 17.
Voting will take place on December 5 and counting of votes on December 8.
A total of 2,89,579 voters of Sardarshahar constituency are eligible to exercise their right to vote in 295 polling stations.
The seat of Sardarshahar (Churu) was held by the Congress for a long time. Bhanwar Lal Sharma, 77, passed away on October 9 after a long illness. He held the MLA post seven times.
At present, the Congress has 107 MLAs, the BJP 71 and 13 Independent MLAs in Rajasthan’s 200-member Assembly. One seat is vacant, the rest are taken by other parties.
A general election will be held in the state at the end of 2023.
