PM will hold 8 rallies over 3 days to the main region of Woo Gujarat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially blow the campaign horn for the Gujarat Assembly polls on November 20 when he will hold three public rallies in the Saurashtra region.

The prime minister is expected to hold about 30 rallies across the state during the campaign.

Earlier, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had estimated that PM will hold nearly 25 rallies.

On November 21, the Prime Minister is expected to hold two meetings and on November 22, he will hold three meetings in Saurashtra region and South Gujarat region.

The Saurashtra region is significant as it has 48 assemblies out of a total of 182 and has a significant Patidar population of the Other Backward Class (OBC).

In 2017, the Congress won a majority of seats in this region and many in the party believe it was the Patidars’ agitation that helped the Congress give the BJP some tough competition. With Patidars no longer an issue, the BJP hopes to improve its numbers and break its own record of 127 seats.

Modi will aim for an unprecedented seventh term for the BJP in the state and is expected to create an emotional connection with voters, raising the issue of ‘Gujarati asmita’ and the benefits of a ‘twin engine government’.

Union Minister Amit Shah has also maintained that the BJP will do hugely well in the Saurashtra region this election.

The prime minister is scheduled to arrive in the state where the polls are to be held on November 19. The plan to address Prime Minister meetings has been finalized by the state, pending the Prime Minister’s final approval.

“As soon as the approval comes, which could come tonight, we will announce the details,” the leader added.

The BJP’s star campaigner will focus on the Saurashtra region, which will go to the polls on December 1 in its first phase.

Sources aware of the details said a detailed program of PM’s rallies and roadshows is being prepared. As the prime minister was out of the country for the G20 summit, the party waited for his return to seek approval and finalize his rally venues.

Voting for the parliamentary elections for 182 seats will take place in two phases on 1 and 5 December. The results for the parliamentary elections will be announced on December 8 along with Himachal Pradesh.
