On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will hold a roadshow in Nandod (Gujarat) from Surya Darwaja to Harsiddhi Mata Mandir at 4pm.
Out of a total of 788 candidates contesting in the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections, 167 candidates have criminal cases pending against them, and 100 of them face serious charges such as murder and rape, according to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms ( ADR) Thursday.
Overall, 21 percent of contestants have criminal cases against them, while 13 percent face serious charges.
In terms of political parties, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which contests 88 seats, tops this list with 36 percent of its candidates having a criminal background, and 33 percent facing serious charges. The number of candidates with a criminal background stands at 32. This is followed by the Congress with 35 percent and the BJP whose criminal candidates are 16 percent.
AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal sent a video message to Congress supporters in Gujarat on Thursday, asking them not to vote for the party as it “is not going to win even five seats” in next month’s parliamentary elections.
In his message, Kejriwal urged traditional supporters of Congress to vote for the AAP, saying that “voting Congress means wasting your vote.” “No congressional government will be formed. Congress gets less than five seats in this parliamentary election. Whichever Congress wins MLA will join BJP afterwards,” he said.
In response, the grand old party released its own video message calling AAP a B-team of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). You are the B-team of the BJP…I challenge you by putting in writing that you will not get any seats in Gujarat,” Congress in charge of Gujarat and Rajasthan MLA Raghu Sharma said in a video.
Meanwhile, Modi on Wednesday accused Congress of not supporting a tribal woman, Droupadi Murmu, in the presidential poll and called for the party to engage in vote bank politics, nepotism, sectarianism and support “anti-social elements” during its rule in the state.
The prime minister also took a look at Rahul Gandhi by saying, “A person is marching on foot to regain power. In his speech he talks about tribes. I want to ask him why Congress did not support BJP female tribal candidate in presidential election? Instead, they fielded their own candidate to defeat her.”
MCD Elections 2022
People should vote for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to end the BJP’s “failure and misgovernment” in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia said on Thursday.
Sisodia said AAP’s vision is to make Delhi the most beautiful capital in the world in the next five years by taking power in the MCD. On Thursday, he held street corner rallies in nine districts of Aadarsh Nagar, Wazirpur and Model Town.
Congress launched its “Saaf Paani Wali Dilli, Sheila Dikshit Wali Dilli” campaign on Thursday, pledging to provide RO water purifiers to the poor if they come to power in municipal elections.
Congress Delhi president Anil Chaudhary launched the campaign and said the party will work on issues that concern people and provide solutions to the “water crisis situation” in the national capital. He lashed out at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) claiming that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal cheated the poor people of Delhi by promising 20 kilolitres of water for free.
The BJP is stepping up its campaign for the MCD polls and launching a massive voter campaign in the 250 municipal districts this Sunday. “The party will reach more than one million voters in Delhi through the campaign,” said Adesh Gupta, head of the Delhi BJP.
