The laid off affected non-developer roles, here’s why
In his blog “The Jacob Wolf Report,” the reporter confirmed the exact number job losses to 46. According to the source, the publishing, esports, human resources and talent acquisition departments have been mainly affected by the layoffs. In addition, a few supporting roles have also gotten the axe.
Apparently, the job cuts occurred as the company’s priorities changed. In an interview, a Riot Games executive said, “Riot Games has made strategic shifts within a few teams to sharpen our focus in a number of areas.”
Riot Games firing was ‘normal business’
The director clarified that it was nothing out of the ordinary and called it “part of our normal course of business”. He continued: “We periodically make changes to our structure and our teams based on what we believe will allow us to deliver the best content and experiences for players.
In addition, he stressed that the move was not a hasty decision. He emphasized: “We never make these decisions lightly and will always be driven by a desire to retain agitators and keep them focused on our highest priorities. Although that is not always possible, it is our primary goal.”
Statistically, this layoff represented less than 1% of Riot Games’ workforce, which stands at 4,500 employees.
