BJP’s Poonia rejects Gehlot’s accusations

Rajasthan BJP President Satish Poonia on Thursday dismissed as baseless allegations made by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot that his party played a role in the 2020 uprising of a group of Congress MLAs led by Sachin Pilot.

Poonia also said that the BJP had nothing to do with the current crisis within the state congress.

“Gehlot has been making these allegations for the past four years and there is no basis for these allegations and BJP has nothing to do with this episode,” he told reporters.

In an interview with NDTV, Gehlot claimed that Union Home Secretary and senior BJP leader Amit Shah was involved in Pilot’s rebellion, when some Congress MLAs loyal to him were detained in a prison for over a month. resort in Gurugram.

He also alleged that Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan visited the rebel MLAs frequently and claimed that he had proof that a sum of Rs 10 crore had been paid to each of those legislators including Pilot.

Gehlot said Pilot is a ‘gaddar’ (traitor) and cannot replace him as he had rebelled against the Congress in 2020 and tried to overthrow the state government.

Gehlot’s comments sparked a war of words between him and Pilot, signaling the growing rifts in the ruling party in Rajasthan.

Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Rajendra Rathore, took a swipe at the Congress and said that even before the arrival of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra in Rajasthan, Gehlot has started “Congress Todo Yatra”.
