SP candidate Dimple Yadav warns of ‘crackdown’ against party leaders ahead of Mainpuri Bypoll

Samajwadi Party leader Dimple Yadav claimed on Sunday that the BJP-led government will crack down on local party leaders ahead of the Mainpuri by-election and asked them not to “sleep at home” the night before the election .

She said that the Mainpuri constituency of Uttar Pradesh was the area of SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav who had worked to develop it and claimed that the party is going to the people with this reality in the upcoming bypoll here.

Dimple, the wife of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, has been dismissed from the seat, which was represented by party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav.

The poll in Mainpuri will take place on December 5, while the counting of votes will take place on December 8.

“I would like to tell my young friends and SP leaders that the board will crack down on you on December 4. Do not sleep in your houses on December 4, so that no one can touch you on December 5.

“You are going to cast your vote, and on December 6, the administration will disappear here,” she said at an election rally in Ahirava village under the Bhogaon assembly.

She also urged women to vote for the party, saying: “The government cannot use force against you. You are the power of women and you can fight. You must cast your vote.” “An elderly person told me that it is the administration that is challenging the bypoll. I told her that on one side is the government contesting the election, on the other Mainpuri is contesting the bypoll for ‘netaji.

“This is not my election. This is the election of your (people) and that of our respected ‘netaji’. I am sure that Mainpuri will honor and pay tribute (to ‘netaji’),” she said.

An SP delegation also met with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Uttar Pradesh and demanded the removal of the Mainpuri District Magistrate and the Senior Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) from electoral work alleging they were abusing their administrative power.

The SP leaders alleged that DM Avinash Kumar Rai and SSP Jai Prakash Singh are pressuring village chiefs, block chiefs, district panchyat members and others to vote for the BJP in the Mainpuri bypoll.

They said free and fair elections in Mainpuri would not be possible until these officials remained in their posts.

“It is a reality that this area (Mainpuri) has been the area of ’netaji’. You cannot hide this reality. This is the fact and the reality, and we are going to take this (reality) to the public,” she told PTI on the sidelines of her election rally.

When asked how she views this poll, she said, “People of Mainpuri know that ‘netaji’ has done development projects here and people will honor him in the upcoming poll.” Only later did she say, “Let’s not speculate about the family. Let’s work on the ground floor on matters related to the public.” Shivpal Singh Yadav, president of the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia), had recently said that it was a call from “daughter-in-law” Dimple Yadav that led him to campaign for her for the upcoming Mainpuri bypoll.

Amid a deteriorating relationship with cousin Akhilesh Yadav, the PSPL chief agreed to campaign for the SP chief’s wife in the upcoming bypoll.

Mainpuri parliamentary constituency has five assembly segments: Mainpuri, Bhogaon, Kishni, Karhal and Jaswant Nagar.

In the 2022 parliamentary elections, the SP won the seats in Karhal, Kishni and Jaswant Nagar, while the BJP won the seats in Mainpuri and Bhogaon.

Akhilesh Yadav’s assembly place in Karhal is part of Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency, as is Jaswant Nagar, which is represented by Shivpal Yadav.

Addressing the meeting, Dimple said, “This is the first bypoll when ‘netaji’ is not among us. ‘Netaji’ had an emotional relationship with the people of Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency, and people from here lived in his heart.

“He always considered their problems his own. He has done the maximum development of this place – be it roads, electricity, irrigation, education for girls or jobs for youth.

“’Netaji’ had always thought of everyone, he had considered everyone important and brought everyone along. He had never indulged in a policy of partiality and discrimination.

“He was always concerned about the development of Mainpuri and how to help people here,” she said.

She said the farmers are worried under the BJP-led state government because they cannot get fertilizer. Those who get it can do so with great difficulty and purchase it at expensive rates, she said.

“Our women are not safe, they are not getting their pension,” she said, adding that the former SP government had given “Kanya Vidya Dhan (to girls), laptops to students and built good roads.

“However, no new work has been done in this area or in the state,” she charged.

She claimed that the current “arrogant” government is unwilling to accept that people are in trouble, that they are dealing with inflation, that young people are unemployed and that the daughters are not safe.

“This government is not ready to accept the prevailing conditions. If they are not willing to accept, how will it negotiate with them?” she asked.

“They can only talk about diversions. They can make you fight each other and won’t think about your future or your children,” she said, urging people to vote for her party on Dec. 5.

She also claimed that when the SP was in power, the party walked the path of ideology and principles and also progressed by taking everyone along.
