After stand-up comedian Vir Das’s show was canceled in Bengaluru following protests by right-wing organizations, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) said Saturday in Goa it will continue to protest against him until he apologizes for his “anti-India” comments. in the U.S.

Speaking to PTI, HJS spokesman Ramesh Shinde said here that his organization will continue to protest Das wherever his shows are scheduled.

Das’s monologue “I’m from two Indias” presented in the US had sparked controversy a year ago when he was criticized for defaming the country.

On Thursday, his show in Bengaluru was canceled at the last minute after protests from right-wing Hindu organizations, which claimed it would harm Hindu religious feelings.

Das should apologize for his statement to India in the US. If we don’t protest his statement, it would mean supporting what he said,” Shinde said.

He accused the comedian of defaming India on an international level during his performance.

Das should apologize for his statement. If he apologizes, the problem is over,” Shinde said.

The HJS has not canceled Das’ show in Bengaluru, he said, adding that the organization had filed a formal police complaint against the comedian at a police station there.

“The police had informed us (HJS) that the show cannot be cancelled. So we said we would protest outside the venue while holding placards peacefully,” he said.

The decision to cancel the show was taken by the organizers and the police, Shinde said.
