The EFL Cup semi-final between Manchester United and Nottingham Forest almost ended in disaster when a billboard near the pitch collapsed under pressure from fans. Bruno Fernandes scored United’s third goal in the 89e minute of the game and during the celebration, several fans entered the pitch as the hoarding broke. The situation was quickly brought under control with the players assisting the stewards and no one was injured in the incident.

Police and local authorities quickly intervened to control the crowd and the game resumed within minutes after some spectators were moved to another part of the stadium.

“It was an unpleasant sight that moment, but it seems everyone is fine in that corner. They’re putting the billboard back,” former Manchester United defender Gary Neville said in comment.

Marcus Rashford scored a stunning solo goal as Manchester United beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 on Wednesday in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final to virtually book a place at Wembley next month.

The England man, enjoying a purple patch after the World Cup, scored his 18th goal of the season in the sixth minute to silence an expectant crowd at the City Ground.

United’s new loanee Wout Weghorst scored his first goal for the club just before half-time to give the visitors total control, with Bruno Fernandes later adding sparkle to the score.
