Google Pixel 7 users had previously complained about issues with the devices and material being faulty. Several users now have newer functional-level complaints. The quality of video calls on Pixel 7 phones is reportedly very poor. During video calls using multiple apps, including Google Meet, the video quality would be relatively subpar compared to other smartphones in the same range. Even the videos received from the Pixel 7 are reportedly noticeably blurrier and appear blotchy.
A reddit useras reported from the Android Police claimed that video call quality on their Pixel 7 is weaker compared to many older devices. They say the quality is lower on several apps including Google Meet. The owner of the Pixel 7 initially thought the problem was with the Google Meet app. To test, the user installed Google Meet on a Pixel 3 XL and a 2018 iPad Pro. The video calls from both systems were much sharper and clearer than the Pixel 7, according to the post.
Dozens of other Android users responded to the post, in which a Pixel 7 Pro owner stated that video calls on Instagram, WhatsApp, Telegram and Google’s own app were also blurry. According to the same user, the quality issue was present on both the front and back cameras, so there was no way to avoid it during a video call on the Pixel 7 Pro.
According to one user, none of the apps used the correct camera API, resulting in reduced quality. Given the exceptional quality of the photos and videos taken by the Pixel 7’s camera outside of video calls, the software is the most likely suspect behind this problem.
Several Twitter users also had similar complaints. An user tweeted asking, “My front camera is very blurry during a video call on Google Meet using my Pixel 7 Pro. Is there a way to fix this?” Another user early for a replacement for her Pixel 7 device. This one complaints going back to December 2022.
In December last year, many Pixel 7 users complained about the rear camera glass breaking for no reason. Several Reddit and Twitter users reported that the cameras on their Google Pixel 7 devices broke or shattered without a fall. According to some users, it looked like a material defect in the phone at the time. An affected user was reportedly offered a replacement product by Google.
