Netflix has released a revamped interface for its iPhone app via an update. The new update, which started development in 2022, gives the app’s interface a refreshed look, with new animations and transitions, making everything look smooth. The update also brings a card-like interface with matching backgrounds that Netflix calls the “billboard layout.” Users who wish to view the new interface will need to update to the latest version (15.14.0) of the Netflix app via the App Store.

As the update was made available on the App Store, a former Netflix UI designer Janum Trivedi explained what has changed in a series of tweet. The update basically adds a new front and center featured card used to promote a movie or show. The large card sits on a color-matched background that chooses colors directly based on the cover design. The map also has a parallax effect that uses the iPhone’s accelerometer when a user rotates the phone a few degrees at any angle. At the top left is a new filter with rounded, pill-shaped buttons that make it easier to filter content by categories. The category drop-down menu also has a matching color background. Tons of new animations and transitions have been added to the app’s interface with cards floating in and out of place and also transitions and animations for the profile picker.

According to Trivedi’s tweets, the UI team has been working on this update since 2022. No details are yet known about whether this updated interface will make it to Android smartphones. While 9to5Mac has said that a similar interface will also arrive on the Apple TV, the source tweet has been deleted.

In recent news, Netflix has announced that it has acquired the streaming rights for 18 new films in Tamil. The acquisition comes as the streaming service focuses on regional language content on its app. The movies will be made available in the app after they are released in theaters. The films are made available in multiple languages with dubbing and subtitles provided by Netflix.
