WhatsApp is testing a new image blur feature for desktop beta testers. The feature is likely to be extended to mobile users as well.

WhatsApp is testing a new desktop beta tester feature that allows users to blur images directly from chat. The messaging app owned by Meta is reportedly rolling out the new image blur tool for WhatsApp desktop beta users, allowing users to blur images to blur sensitive information. As reported by WABetaInfo, the online platform that tracks the new and upcoming features of WhatsApp, the app has introduced two blur tools that allow users to edit any part of the selected images using an alternative blur effect. Users can also choose the blur size to apply the effect with grainy precision.

The WhatsApp image blur feature was first noticed in June of this year, but it is currently rolling out for some WhatsApp desktop beta users. It is likely that the new feature will be extended to mobile users in the near future. The new feature makes it safer to share media files on WhatsApp.

A few months ago, the instant messaging app introduced new security features to provide a more secure user experience. The feature included leaving silent groups, hiding active status online, no screenshot for View Once messages, default E2EE, encrypted backups, disappearing messages, blocking and reporting, as well as two-step verification to let users send messages freely without compromising your privacy bring.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp has also released the Android beta update via Google Play Store, which will allow for captioned media to be forwarded. Not only images, but also videos, GIFs and documents can be sent with a caption. With the new update, WhatsApp Android Beta users can see a new message box at the bottom of the media file to add a caption. That’s not all, users can also delete the caption by tapping the reject icon in the caption view.
