After Cobra Kai's Success, Sony Announces New Karate Kid Movie

Hollywood studio Sony has a new karate kid film and dated for June 7, 2024 release in the US. According to entertainment news website The Hollywood Reporter, the new film is described as “the return to the original Karate Kid franchise”. There is no cast and director attached to the project, which comes from Sony’s Columbia Pictures banner. The film series was launched in 1984 with The karate kidstarring Ralph Macchio and William Zabka.

It was followed by The Karate Kid Part II (1986), The Karate Kid Part III (1989), and The next karate kid (1994).

In 2010, the film series was rebooted with The karate kidstarring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith.

The franchise is currently popular among the new generation, thanks to the success of Cobra Kaistreaming on Netflix and featuring original stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka alongside younger actors.

In addition to the new karate kid movie, Sony has also announced release dates for its other upcoming titles.

a nameless Really spooky movie is set for January 6, 2023, while missingthe next chapter in the To search franchise, opens on February 24, 2023.

The studio has also postponed several upcoming tent poles. Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney starrer Madame Webbpreviously scheduled for October 6, 2023, will now be released on February 16, 2024.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson led Kraven the hunter takes over the October 6, 2023 release date. It was previously scheduled to debut on January 13, 2023.
