Australian Daria Saville is sidelined for a long time after knee injury | tennis news

Australian Daria Saville face another long spell on the sidelines after the former world No. 20 confirmed on Wednesday that she tore a ligament in her left knee while playing in Tokyo.
Moscow-born Saville, who competed under her maiden name Gavrilova until she married Australian tennis player Luke Saville last year, was beset by major injuries during her career.
The 28-year-old injured her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in 2013 and required major knee surgery that kept her off the women’s tour for a long time.
Saville dropped to 627th in the world in February after missing most of the 2021 season following Achilles tendon surgery, though she has since moved up to number 55.
Her latest injury came at the Pan Pacific Open Naomi Osaka after she jumped in the air to hit a forehand. She then slumped to court and burst into tears.
“Ripped ACL. 2013 flashbacks,” Saville said on Twitter, thanking her fellow players for voicing their concern.
“By the way, don’t worry about me. I’m sorry that everyone is so concerned. I’m fine, I promise you.’
