Tata Tiago EV Features Revealed Before Launch: Cruise Control, Regen Modes & More

Tata Motors will unveil the Tiago EV later this month and has already revealed a number of features. Know them all.

The Tata Tiago is an interesting ICE-powered hatchback and now an EV version of the same is coming soon. EV ownership is expected to become more affordable, the Tiago EV is expected to have a starting price below Rs. 10 lakhs and could be based on Tigor EV platform. While many assumed the Tiago EV would offer similar, if not inferior, features to the Tigor EV, Tata Motors has unveiled a mega surprise. The electric hatchback is going to pack a lot more.

Ahead of its September 28 launch, Tata Motors has revealed that the Tiago EV will come with a number of advanced driving modes. One is regenerative braking modes, which are not readily available in affordable EVs. The Tigor EV itself lacks rain brake modes, but Tigor EV will bring the same in a smaller footprint. Rain brakes allow drivers to charge the car’s batteries as soon as they take their foot off the pedal, which also helps when driving with one foot.

Tata Tigor EV Features Revealed

While the regenerative braking modes are a big deal for EV drivers, Tata Motors is also adding a useful driving aid to the Tiago EV. The company is going to provide the cruise control feature on the Tiago EV, which is rare for a compact hatchback car in India. Cruise control should technically allow you to maintain a desired speed and distance on highways and let the car do the acceleration and braking for you.

That said, Ola did a “Cruise Control” on his S1 Pro electric scooter and that was a completely different concept. The Ola S1 Pro’s Cruise Control simply allowed riders to select a speed and have the vehicle maintain it automatically – braking must be done manually. Will Tata Motors do the same with the Tiago EV, as it will be a budget EV car and cruise control sensors are expensive.

Tata Motors will also give the Tiago EV a special sport mode for driving, which should improve acceleration and throttle response.

Rumors suggest that the Tiago EV could share the powertrain with the Tigor EV sedan. Therefore, it could get the same Ziptron powertrain that produces 75 hp and 170 Nm of torque. Its 26 kWh lithium-ion battery could provide a range of more than 306 km due to its smaller size. A 25kW DC fast charger can charge the battery of a Tigor EV in 1 hour and 5 minutes.
