As a result of the surge in hate crime, sectarian violence and anti-Indian activity against Indian nationals in Canada, India has asked its citizens visiting or living in Canada to “use the necessary caution and remain vigilant.” The State Department’s advisory notes that there has been a sharp increase in hate crime, sectarian violence and anti-Indian activity in Canada. Controversy arose over a reported conference at the University of Toronto in Canada. Canadian Hindu Diaspora protested outside the University of Toronto demanding that the university withdraw its approval of an alleged anti-Hindu conference known as ‘Dismantling the Global Hindutva’.
